About Rob Bell Web Design
How Your Favourite Web Design Company Came To Be
Rob Bell Web Design (I spent weeks dreaming that name up!) was conceived in September 2007 during a long hot summer Rob spent relaxing and recuperating at the home of his friends, Ian and Suki, in Ibiza. A conversation between Rob, Ian, and legendary house music and Radio One DJ Danny Rampling, turned to the subject of the Internet, and running businesses online. Rob had been designing his own websites for years, as well as commissioning site designs for the companies he’d previously worked for in the corporate world, during a successful career as a Marketing Manager for the likes of Sun Microsystems, STORM, Integrated Technology Europe, Dedicated Micros, Total Oil, London Electricity and Pubmaster. Rob was also the youngest person ever to be awarded ‘Chartered Marketer’ status by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and until he left the CIM during lean times after his injury, Rob had more letters after his name than in it!
After a third serious extreme sports injury (a broken back for the second time!), Rob found himself unable to work for several years, and unable to return to a ‘normal job’ due to chronic back pain and mobility issues affecting his energy levels, state of mind and ability to stand and sit. Danny asked him why he’d never worked for himself online – Rob didn’t really know! He was a serious Internet power user – he’d been online since 1989 and built his first website in 1994. He’d also studied Computer Networking, Databases, HTML, CSS, WordPress, Drupal and Web Design and Development – in addition to the Business & Management Degree and Marketing Postgraduate diploma he’d held since graduating from Bradford University Management Centre in 1994. He’s also ‘your computer pal’ – the first one of your friends you always turn to whenever you have a computer or Internet emergency… although he has less time to fix them these days!
On his return to England, Rob immediately registered with Business Link and begun small business planning for his web design company, sponsored by the Leonard Cheshire Foundation. Rob Bell Web Design was ‘born’ in mid 2008, offering professional web design services to small businesses throughout the World, from a base in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, UK. The business grew quickly and organically, solely through customer recommendations – a customer would get Rob to design a website, show it to their friends, and their friends would like it so much they wanted a website building for their business too.
Business-Focused Approach To Web Design
Rob’s unique business and marketing focused approach to web design – formed through his education and 15 years of experience working in marketing for multi-national, market-leading companies – proved very effective. Instead of just designing and building a soulless website that looks good but lacks substance, he would firstly learn all about each business – its’ objectives, products and services, markets it operates in, the types of customer who buy from it now, and the ideal types to buy from the business in the future. Rob would then create a website designed to target and appeal to the right people, a site that made it easy for visitors to find out more about, then book or buy, the client’s products or services. With clear calls to action so visitors know exactly what to do to purchase a product or service, these marketing-focused sites produced excellent results for their owners.
Onwards and Upwards
In 2009, the business began officially to offer Social Media integration (although we were building into sites before) – with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, YouTube and an ever-expanding array of Social Networks and Bookmarking Sites, each with its’ own features, functions, rules and visitor demographics.
The first Content Management System (CMS) websites, built on WordPress and Drupal foundations, were launched as we upgraded our website technologies to embrace more powerful web platforms which allow you, the customer, to edit and update your own website, quickly and easily, without fear of breaking something important or needing to know any code.
In September 2009, Rob Bell launched a second Internet company – Ex Ignibus – offering Cloud Computing services to small businesses using online business tools for business tasks and systems. Ex Ignibus make companies more effective using the Internet – and we work with them to ensure web design and backoffice processes are integrated seamlessly
In 2010, Rob Bell Web Design started offering Search Engine Optimisation services like Keyword Research, Website Optimisation, Backlink Training and Directory Submission – to get clients listed on the first page of Google, even into the coveted first position (live example opens in a new window).
In 2011, Rob Bell Web Design is expanding our range of Internet services, as well as integrating conventional and digital marketing services from Ex Ignibus into our offering. After a recent technology upgrade in the ‘Command Centre’, we’re in a stronger position than ever, looking forward to helping lots more businesses make more from the Internet throughout 2011 and beyond.
